Police in Myrtle Beach, S.C., a man charged with assaulting a man over his sexual orientation. Michael Shawn Miller, 46, was charged with assault and kidnapping after he attacked his new roommate.

The Colorado Court of Appeals the appeal of a man found guilty of killing a transgender woman. Allen Andrade, 35, was accused of killing 18-year-old Angie Zapata after meeting her though social networking website and finding out she was biologically a male. The murder was the first transgender killing to be prosecuted as a hate crime.

A Wisconsin man with sending threats to a Wisconsin State Fair official. The suspect allegedly sent threatening and racially charged e-mails to Patrice Harris, an African-American spokesperson for the state fair, who was discussing recent assaults there on television.

Three men in Monroe, La., with civil rights violations for hanging a dead raccoon from a flagpole, with a noose, to intimidate black students at a local high school. The three suspects face one year in jail if convicted.
