Ҵý Georgia State Office Joins ACLU of Georgia to Launch “I Got 5 On It” Campaign

ճմ—Today, the Southern Poverty Law Center (Ҵý) Georgia State Office announced that it is teaming up with ACLU of Georgia’s“I Got 5 on It”get-out-the-vote campaign, to increase civic participation this election. The campaign’s goal is to make sure as many people as possible show up to vote during early voting and on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

The joint voting campaign will kick-off onWednesday, September 4, at 6:30 p.m., at the Plaza Theatre, 1049 Ponce de Leon Ave NE, Atlanta, Ga., and will include a screening of the documentary film “Bad Faith: Christian Nationalism's Unholy War on Democracy.” Following the film, Ҵý Georgia State Office and ACLU of Georgia will host a Q&A session with Duke University Professor Nancy MacLean, author of the multi-award-winning book “Democracy in Chains.”

I Got 5 on It will continue with five weeks of action from October 1 through Election Day. During this period, participants will volunteer as an individual, group or organization to engage with five people each and discuss the importance of voting, vote early and remind at least five other people to vote early or on Election Day. The campaign aims to connect with over 10,000 voters across at least 100 counties in Georgia.

“We’re excited to support ACLU of Georgia to help voters mobilize their friends and family members to the polls,” saysYterenickia “YT” Bell, state director of the Ҵý’s Georgia State Office. “Black and Latino voters know that the freedom to vote is the most basic constitutional right we have, and we either use it or lose it. That’s why Georgia’s got now to embrace our power to make change in our communities and realize the hopes, dreams and freedoms of our families this election.”

“We are doing everything we can to ensure that every Georgian can vote their values,” saysFallon McClure, deputy director of policy and advocacy, ACLU of Georgia.
