The Daily Caller exposed for publishing prolific antisemite; still employs editor with white nationalist ties
Last week, a political reporter at Vox听听the antisemitic postings of a former contributor听迟辞听罢丑别听Daily Caller, a right-wing tabloid founded by Fox News personality Tucker Carlson.
Moses Apostaticus, aka David Hilton, contributed over听听to the website between August 2016 and April 2017. Apostaticus鈥� writings听for听罢丑别听Daily Caller听focused on antifa, George Soros, "identity politics" and "cultural Marxism." One column was titled "Donald Trump Is America鈥檚 Julius Caesar."听
"Convinced that if Hillary was elected there would be no help for the world, I started writing articles supportive of Trump for Tucker Carlson鈥檚 the Daily Caller in Washington. It鈥檚 one of the top three conservative news sites in America," Apostaticus听wrote after being doxed as Hilton. Apostaticus said his articles "regularly got tens of thousands of readers" for The Daily Caller, including more than 200,000 pageviews for an article about Soros. As The Nation has , Soros has become a "stand-in for the time-honored anti-Jewish slanders sensationalized in Europe and elsewhere in the Protocols of the Elders of Zion."
Elsewhere Apostaticus shared antisemitic memes and that Israel was behind the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. "The cabal plan on creating a world government in Jerusalem after they cull the goyim with World War III," read one . On Facebook, Apostaticus shared an article detailing the role IBM played in the Holocaust with the caption "IBM did nothing wrong."听
Apostaticus contributed two pieces 鈥� including a column titled 鈥淗ow cultural Marxism created the Alt-Right鈥� 鈥� to the Australian edition of the conservative听The Spectator听before being听.听The Spectator听蝉耻产蝉别辩耻别苍迟濒测听听Apostaticus鈥� contributions in July 2017, though his 20 articles听补迟听罢丑别听Daily Caller听remain available on the outlet's website as of today's publication date.听
Last year, the Southern Poverty Law Center (蜜桃传媒) reported on听罢丑别听Daily Caller鈥檚听multiple dalliances with the white nationalist "alt-right,鈥� including publishing a regular column by the elder statesman of the racist movement,听Peter Brimelow. The neo-Nazi protest in Charlottesville, Virginia, last August that left one dead and 19 injured was organized by another former听Daily Caller听contributor, Jason Kessler. Kessler covered the original May 2017 Charlottesville demonstration for the publication and听听that he also helped organize and spoke at the event. The听Daily Caller听quietly deleted Kessler's work after the violence in August, as it did a听听encouraging drivers to run down antiracist protesters.
Still employed 补迟听The Daily Caller, however, is deputy editor Scott Greer.听Photos听of Greer shared on Facebook and captured by antiracist activists strongly suggest that he鈥檚 friends with several well-known white nationalist activists. One pho迟辞听shows Greer wearing a t-shirt听for a defunct group called Youth for Western Civilization, a forerunner to today鈥檚 white nationalist campus organizations.听
In February, Greer was听听at the Conservative Political Action Conference hanging out with Marcus Epstein. Epstein, who was once a听close associate听of Richard Spencer鈥檚, pleaded听guilty听to assaulting an African American woman in Washington, D.C., in the late 2000s.
Greer鈥檚 continued presence on the masthead undermines whatever it was th补迟听罢丑别听Daily Caller听tried to communicate by听听its opinion editor following the backlash to the brief hiring of alt-right popularizer Milo Yiannopolous last November 鈥� a hire the former editor said was approved by the publication鈥檚 top brass.
The Apostaticus case suggests there might be even more skeletons听in听罢丑别听Daily Caller鈥檚 closet.听
